The extremist Boko Haram sect is suspected to be responsible for the explosion
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ladan, has confirmed that one person died from the bomb explosion that rocked Bayan Gari area of the state this evening.
Mr. Ladan said the victim, was a teenager resident in the area, adding also that about 10 people were injured in blast.
"From the report gathered, there was IED explosion in Bayan Gari a small boy died, 10 people injured and they were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital ATBUTH, Bauchi,”Mr Ladan told to PREMIUM TIMES Sunday evening.
Witnesses say the explosion occurred at about 6.40 p.m. when Muslims were about to break their Ramadan fast and that the incident caused tension and panic in the area.
They further said the suspected bomber arrived the area disguised as a hawker pushing a wheel barrow which he eventually abandoned with Improvised Explosives Devices, IEDS, that eventually exploded shortly after.
Most of those injured were patrons of the many relaxation spots littering the area.
Some shops and vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
